How to Draw an Easy Cat Face

The head is a circle. The ears sit on that circle, not inside it. Everything else is small marks placed after the circle looks even.

Materials Pencil, paper, eraser. A black pen is optional for the whiskers at the end.

Step 1

Draw a circle for the head. If it comes out slightly wide, leave it. A cat face can be a little oval.

Step 2

Add two triangles on top of the circle for ears. A light dashed line down the middle helps you place the nose later. The ears should start on the circle and point up.

Step 3

Add the eyes on either side of the guide, a small triangle nose on the guide, and a short W under the nose for the mouth. Keep the eyes level with each other.

Step 4

Erase the center guide. Add three whiskers on each cheek, leaving from beside the mouth, not from the ears. Darken the outline you want to keep.

Finished

The finished face is still the circle plus ears. The whiskers are thin. The guide line is gone.

A common miss

Ears drawn inside the circle, starting too low, read as hair tufts. Plant the base of each ear on the top half of the circle.

One variation

Close the eyes: replace each eye circle with a short downward curve. The rest of the face stays the same. That is a sleeping cat, not a new construction.
